Challenges: The client arrived to BC with a very minimal amount of furniture and needed everything. The home was outdated and had recently been freshly painted, however it was the wrong shade and value of colour.
Solutions: Although the bathrooms and kitchen were in need of renovation, we decided to furnish the home first. The first task was the re-paint the whole interior a warm soft grey what would play well with the natural lighting.
I like to call this space, Mid Century Modern meets West Coast. It has all the clean lines and gentle, organic curves of minimalistic design and the comfort of the west coast.
This room is long and narrow, to balance its scale and proportion, we added walnut panels to each end of the main feature wall, with lighting that can be dimmed to create ambiance. The conversation area was centered between, creating a cozy sitting area.
We removed the shelving out of what was intended to be a niche cabinet and customized one in the same horizontal walnut as the wall panels. By bumping out the base, we created a space for some storage.
This piece of furniture was a fun piece to design! Not only is it an amazing work of art with the beautiful beveled detail of each door, but the design works into its function. Did you know there are 6 doors on this cabinet? I paid homage to my client’s Scottish roots with my interpretation of blending her love of Mid-Century Modern Design and Tartan, shown in the intersecting lines.
This room’s inspiration began with the Birds on a Wire art piece. Next we located the confetti wool rug and the fun with colour just kept on going! This room gets a gorgeous amount of sun and you can’t help but feel happy when you step in.
In addition to all the furnishing and accessories, we installed power blinds through-out the residence. Each zone is programed to open and close at pre-determined times.
